USS Midway
The USS Midway is a San Diego Aircraft Carrier Musuem located downtown in San Diego at the Navy Pier. The Midway provides visitors with a unique and enriching experience of Naval history and national pride. The Midway's long tradition of excellence continues today as an interactive museum and education center.
History of the USS Midway
The USS Midway sailed the ocean and seas of the world for 47 years in service to our country. In fact, it is the longest servicing carrier in the history of our country! The Midway was commissioned in the final year of World War II and was used as a flagship during the 1991 Desert Storm war against Iraq.
The Midway's long and illustrious career in the Navy gave the carrier the nickname the Magical Midway. The ship has a proud tradition of cometing its missions with vigilance and diligence. The Midway was at the "tip of the sword" (at the center of action) during WWII in the Pacific theater, during much of the Cold War, during the years of Vietnam, as well as Desert Storm.
Main Features of the USS Midway
There is a self-guided audio tour with your admission that lets you access the 40 some exhibits and displays. You can park on the Navy pier. Try the flight simulators for some added adventure and see if you can land on the deck of the carrier! If you get hungry, there is a cafe on board and, of course, a gift shop for memorabilia.
Cost of the Exhibit
For adults, the Midways costs $15, while Senior Citizens, Students with ID and Military with ID pay $10. For kids 6-17 years old, the cost is $8, while children younger than 6 and active duty mility in their uniforms are free. To purchase discounted USS Midway tickets, use our link.
